Crime Survey for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland

Latest figures show that violent crime in Leicestershire and Rutland is at its highest level since records began. In 2018 there were 25,327 cases of violence against a person – that is 69 every day! Murder, rape and sexual assaults were all also at high levels.

Tackling violent crime needs a firm and imaginative approach. As well as increased stop-and-search powers by the police, there needs to be firm sentencing and effective targeting of crime prevention measures.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that the Conservative government will recruit an extra 20,000 police and provide 10,000 extra prison places. The Conservatives will also make it easier for police to stop and search people for knives, drugs and other crimes. I want to see the new police in Leicestershire and Rutland out on the streets of our towns and villages targeting crime where it is really happening.

The Labour Police and Crime Commissioner recently announced funding for 10 community projects. Nine of these were in Labour-run Leicester City. We need a fairer allocation of resources. Only a Conservative PCC will deliver that.

To help me find the right policies for all areas of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, please complete my survey.
